Matariki stars

 L.I to make a DLO about the matariki stars

to continue our learning with Matariki we drew the Matariki stars, and labeled each of them. This activity helped us identify each star, and learn each of the names to strengthen our connections to not only Matariki but the culture and celebration. It was really fun doing this as this was an art based activity. We were able to edit these stars and it was very fun doing.

Organizing and Researching

 LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology.


Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers. 
David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this smart searching activity, we used our comprehension and research skills to learn about Greek Mythology vocabulary and identify Greek places on the map.

I found this activity interesting because we got to learn a bunch of new words and places about Ancient Greece, we also learnt a lot of words revolving around Politics which was very interesting. 
The word/place I found most interesting was Alexander the Great because he was known for his amazin standout feats in battle.

Venn Diagram

 

LI: to find as many similarities and differences as you can between the video and the text of “The Beginning”. 


To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a Venn Diagram. For our Venn Diagram we compared the differences and similarities between the Video and Written Version of the Maori Creation Story.


A Venn Diagram, is a diagram showcasing the differences and similarities between two different things.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a DLO to explain the evidence and perspective of a maori story. We read about Sacred Spots from Māori Mythology. We used the different evidence from the articles to create an opinion on whether we think it is true or false. 


The story we chose to do was about the Tongariro National Park. This story talked about the mountains that surrounded Taupo lake, they were all male except for one. Her name was Pihanga. They fought for the love of Pihanga, only one came out victorious. That mountain was Tongariro.

LI: to identify the main ideas in the text. 


To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a DLO explaining the main ideas of the story of how maui slowed the sun. We watched a video explaining the story of how maui slowed the sun and why.


Maui and the villagers weren’t able to finish off their tasks during the day because the sun went by too fast. They got sick of it so maui and his brother made a plan to slow the sun. They used flax ropes and he magical jawbone Maui was given by his grandmother.

For our Inquiry we were learning about Matariki, and the origin story. Our task was to watch a video on the Maori Creation story and we had to summarise the video. The video was an artist representing and creating the story through sand art. 


Our 20 important words had to be the top important words from the video, words that represented the story. Then from the 20 we had to pick the 6 most important words Then using those 6 words we had to sum up the story in a few sentences.

This week in Reading, LS2 has been working towards Simple Machines. Apart of this, we were required to learn about Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is a physicist, mathematician, theologian and a Astronomer. We were also required to create a DLO with the following questions: Why is his work important? What did he find out? How does his work connect to simple machines? I found this activity really fun because I got to work with other people

summarising - Te Tiriti Waitangi

LI: to explain in fewer words what the text is about 

 



Today My group and I were reading about the Treaty of Waitangi. To start, we used the book that we were reading to help us create our summary about the Treaty of Waitangi. What we learned from the book is that the treaty of Waitangi is a day of celebration to remember a historical day of peace, where the treaty was signed by a big number of chiefs. In this activity we learnt about information of the Treaty of Waitangi and about why it was signed by many chiefs so New Zealand could be a part of the British Empire.

Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?

 

A provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Today we considered both sides of the provocation, ‘Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?’ We then used that infomration to help us form an opinion that we could justify with evidence. i say we should wear a mask to protect our selves and to stop the virus from spreading.

Exploring our national current events

 

These reasons are to persuade, inform or entertain (PIE). Each day, newspaper editors around the world must make decisions about which stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in New Zealand, thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google map.
the thing i found interesting is that Leonid meteor shower visible in New Zealand skies. The meteor shower appears from 14 to 21 November.

main idea

 



L.I To find out the main idea 




This DLO is about the Main Ideas in the Poem called Embarrassment. I worked with Makaili,Hosea,Afa and  liletina. We needed to read the book twice to help us understand what the book is about.  I also needed to find out the main details that will help others and yourself understand what the main Idea is . Working with my buddies was really fun and enjoyable because we shared our ideas by working together to understand the book and the main idea.
